A Maison Ferrand product (in the family of Plantation and Pierre Ferrand Cognac). Barbados Aged Rum is distilled in column and pot stills. Aged rum in bourbon casks and finished for 18 months in Cognac casks to bring out flavors of coconut and spices with butterscotch aromas. Double Gold Medal SF Spirits Competition. Not surprisingly the cognac casks it’s aged in are the Pierre Ferrand casks. I’ve had the Ferrand Cognac before and I liked it as well. Among the flavors reported I’d say they are all pretty strong. The vanilla is a very strong flavor. The coconut as well. This is a pretty thick pouring spirit and it has strong legs on the glass. This is one of my favorite rums. We mentioned it before in the podcast, comparing it to other rums for sweetness and vanilla flavor. This is definitely one of the sweeter rums and it goes well with very strong cigars because of that. The sweetness seems to control the super strong cigars well. The MSRP is $30 and I’d recommend getting a bottle if you want to sip rum. If you want a mixer put something else in your glass. It would be a shame to not taste this rum.
