A Diageo product. This is a very old and classic blended whiskey. We wanted to review some of these forgotten whiskys and remind people that the very affordable whiskeys can bring a very pleasant night to a very good night. This whiskey is described as “Malty, very scented, cake-like. Big on the palate; notably firm-bodied and malty, with notes of grain and toasted sesame seeds and a touch of honey. The finish is soothing and long, developing slight lemon grass and peatiness”. There is very little info on it, possibly because at this age and and price point they aren’t really marketing it anymore. Get it or don’t seems to be the advertising. MSRP of $24 for 12 years of aging and you see why they don’t spend much in other areas. I’d describe the liquor as having a distinct honey flavor. I’m not sure what makes lemon grass lemony, but I’d say it did have some grassy flavor. I didn’t taste any lemon. I liked this one chilled more so than some of the other scotches. I think it was smoother and more flavors came out when warm. This is probably a bottle you would like to see on your shelf because it is pretty. I don’t know how often you’d reach for it, but that just means it would make a good long term ‘pretty shelf’ product. I’ll keep this bottle.
