Julia thinks it would be worse it the mower had feelings because it would be a neglected and lonely life. Where as the grass lives a good life in the sun. Darrell was thinking it would be worse for the mower to have feelings because if it felt bad cutting the grass then it would be difficult to start. Bill doesn’t want to imagine any of his objects having feelings, but thought the mower wouldn’t feel bad about the grass because it would be more like giving a haircut.

The assumption is that if the mower had feelings they would be empathic feelings. It could be that the mower is evil and would enjoy cutting the grass… and may want you to lower the wheels; the real looser here is the grass either way.
